http://biolyle.com Class and workshop schedule

2006 wrap-up: I founded BioLyle's Biodiesel Workshop, LLC this year to do biodiesel education for adults and kids. Please see my schedule of upcoming classes and workshops for 2007 at http://biolyle.com or on the NW Biodiesel website, or contact me if your organization would like a presentation: classes@biolyle.com or biolyle@gmail.com

This past year I gave many workshops and presentations to adults and children. I assisted Maria "Girl Mark" Alovert in her homebrew and "build" workshops in Seattle back in October, and then gave similar workshops thru the UW Experimental College, Shoreline Community College, Seattle Parks Dept, and many others. I give both introductory classes (2-3 hr) and all day hands-on workshops, and also give presentations by request for businesses, schools, and community groups.

I got interested in biodiesel a couple years ago after meeting Dr. Dan at an Earth Day event. Soon after learning about biodiesel, I made the plunge- bought a 2002 Jetta Wagon TDI on ebay, and started filling up at Dr. Dan's. But when I learned how relatively easy it is to make, I decided to give it a try, and have been making all my own biodiesel for my car for over 3 years now. This winter my car did fine even with temperatures running into the mid-20's, probably because most of my oil is canola.

Over the past year or so, I've also done presentations for kids, from 1st grade to 12th. Kids really get excited about biodiesel and renewable energy- they "get it" and it's a great way to help them "connect the dots"- looking at our dependence on petroleum, global warming, and then how we can do something about it with renewable fuels. I've also helped form the Breathable Bus Coalition, which advocates for the use of biodiesel in school buses. My background is as a former research scientist, high school science teacher, and environmental health outreach coordinator.
