| Volkswagen TDIs are the most common car choices for fueling with biodiesel in the United States. Volkswagen was the only manufacturer to offer a diesel engine car in the United States in this millenium until Mercedes released the E320 CDI in 2004. The E320 CDI is out of the price range of most buyers, so the TDI is still the most common engine. TDI stands for Turbo Direct Injection. It is a direct injection turbo charged diesel. The Jetta was updated in the 2005.5 model year to a new model. The TDIs are coming for the 2006 model year (they just started arriving around June 2005). The Jetta Wagon isn't being updated yet and is expected on the market for the 2008 model year. A new Golf is expected for the 2007 model year. The Passat and New Beetle are getting upgrades in the next year or two as well, and it isn't clear if they will have TDI options in the US right away. What does this mean? If you like the current cars get one while you can. I don't know if they'll keep making the Jetta Wagon in the old body style, or there just won't be a wagon option after the current ones run out.
